Registration will open winter 2025

ACVO Members,

Years ago, I overheard a group of ACVO members discussing the exponential growth of the College. They reveled in the strength of its growth but noted that it left them feeling disconnected from other Diplomates. They agreed that they enjoyed the annual connection of the fall conference and valued the continuing education and the friendships they made, but they were feeling more and more removed from other members. Some of our more seasoned members wondered aloud if there should be optional education provided which targets higher level skills and interests, addressing the more specialized educational needs of our boarded ophthalmologists. Out of this observance was born the annual conference ‘in-depth’ presentations, which have quickly gained the favor of our attendees. The success of this novel conference approach then teased the creation of an out-of-the-ordinary, ‘mid-year meeting’ experience, which has remained elusive until now…

This was the genesis of the new ACVO, members-only CE event, the ACVO Masters’ Education Retreat. Where ACVO will reach back to a simpler time where there were fewer members, to foster reconnection and provide high-level continuing education in unique locations. Ideally this event will occur every other year, and the times of the year may change. Locations may not always be mainstream, or the easiest for travel, but our members will be rewarded with unique and memorable educational experiences.

So, SAVE THE DATE, plan to join your ACVO friends and colleagues, ‘Somewhere in Time’, on this magical island in Michigan where no vehicles are allowed… We invite you to join no more than 130 ACVO Members on our first adventure together, to Mackinac Island, MI. Seats for this event will be limited, and reserved for ACVO members only. More information on format, content and costs will be provided this summer with registration opening early Winter, 2025.

With warmest regards,

Stacee Daniel and our ACVO Board of Regents

Something Different, Something to Talk About

The story of Grand Hotel, where history lives in the now.

Grand Hotel first opened its doors in 1887 as a summer retreat for vacationers who traveled to Michigan by train, and then came to Mackinac Island via steamer and boat. Throughout its time as America’s Summer Place, one family nurtured and guided the hotel’s growth to a highly celebrated and much-beloved getaway.

Today, this National Historic Landmark continues to beguile guests with old-world hospitality and charm, inspired enhancements, and a heritage to be preserved for generations to come.
